MAISON 75 for the Olympic Games Paris 2024!
We were extremely excited to show the designs for Panama's Olympic Team uniforms! Crafted with a deep reverence for our nation's rich heritage and the dedication of our talented athletes, the 2024 Olympics participation was filled with athletic performance and fashion too.
Designing for the Panamanian Olympic delegation was a profound honor and privilege for us. It embodies values of excellence, friendship, and respect—core principles of the Olympic Movement that unite sport, culture, and education for the benefit of humanity. Each garment has been created not only to represent our Panamanian heritage but also to serve as a symbol of unity and pride for our athletes on the global stage.
Founded in 2016 - Maison 75 is the not so secret Parisian boutique located in the heart of the tropical city center. Coming from Panamanian roots with french influence - founder and designer Désirée Lam has managed to emulate both a Latin American and Parisian essence into her European manufactured pieces. This year instead of bringing a piece of Paris to Panama she will bring a Panamanian tropical breeze to Paris by creating hand picked pieces for the athletes participating in the games.
Each piece has be carefully though to be a representation of Panamanian culture and its rich indigenous cultural history. Starting off with the colours selected: Maison 75 has purposely chosen the colours linked to both the Panamanian and the French flag as a means to honour both countries linked to the olympics. Adding Panamanian details such as golden detailsand tropical weather attire added to compliment the colour scheme of Red, White and Blue.
For the Panamanian Olympic uniforms, the main inspiration stemmed from our nation's biggest pride—the Panama Canal. Each element of the uniform symbolizes la culture Panaméene.
Navy Blue: Honor to our prestigious geographic position, surrounded by two oceans, symbolizing elegance and professionalism.
White: Signifies integrity, peace, and union, reflecting Panama's isthmus and the Olympics' role in global harmony.
Golden Details: Pays homage to gold and the importance of gold in Panamanian indigenous culture, honoring the jewels of our national attire, the pollera.
For me, as a designer, comfort is Indispensable. Considering the Parisian summer heat, I carefully selected breathable fabrics with fluidity that ensure comfort and security for our delegation. The uniform has three essential elements:
Blazer: Adorned with the COP crest and golden buttons, featuring straight and classic lines.
Chemise: Sailor-inspired, crafted in cotton gauze for a timeless and elegant look.
Bermuda Shorts: High-waisted with a graceful drape, offering both style and ease of movement.
